Total Trip: 17 Nights and 18 Days from Arrival to departure (Kathmandu to Kathmandu).

Seasons: April to May and September to November months, April to May best time when morning to mid-day with clear fine weather for views and walks with mild temperatures, right times for treks to Manaslu when wildflowers are in full bloom times, especially the rhododendron flowers. Rhododendron from tall trees to bushes with flowers that blossom of various species and colors that decorate the hill and valleys (national flower of Nepal). October to November months another best time for treks around autumn/fall days are clear for views as well right temperatures for walks, can be cold during night and morning times with chances of snow in high areas of Manaslu valley and above 1,800 meters high.

Introduction:

Tsum Valley Trekking an adventure that leads you to remote and far Nepal North Mid-West Himalaya within the isolated country of high Gorkha district, once a forbidden and restricted land to enter. Since last few decades made possible to observe and enjoy Tsum Valley immense treasures of great beauty with high mountains, scenic valley and traditional farm villages intact with Buddhism religion where you can witness fascinating old monasteries known as Gompa, of Tibetan origin languages. Tsum comes from ancient Tibetan word ‘Beyul Kyimolung’ means valley of Happiness which you can observe and enjoy views and culture of great happiness that this remote hidden country has to offer. Tsum Valley Trekking starts with an exciting scenic drive from Kathmandu to reach Nepal Mid-West areas of Gorkha district within warm sub-tropical temperatures where the route follows the same trail of Manaslu treks for some days. Walking high into cooler alpine hills with stunning views of Manaslu and Ganesh Himal as journey leads into lovely green forest of rhododendron and pines and visiting nice farm villages of Jagat and Philip and then from Lokpa, where our route branches from Manaslu trail. The adventure leads further east behind massive peaks of Ganesh Himal to reach our destination at Nyile and Mu-Gompa within high Tsum Valley enclosed within an array of peaks and high hills. Explore interesting and impressive villages of Nyli-Mu and Chokanparo as well visiting Rachen Gompa then on the road back to low warm areas to reach back at Soti-Khola where drive leads you to Kathmandu, after a great marvelous time and experience on Tsum Valley Trekking.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Day 03:    Drive to Soti-Khola 700m- 07 hrs.

Day 04:    Trek to Machhe-Khola 869 m- 05 hrs

Day 05: Trek to Dobhan 1,070 m via Tatopani (Hot Spring) - 06 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Jagat 1,340 m- 06 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Lokpa 2,240m - 05 hrs.

Day 08: Trek to Chhokan-Paro 3,031 m - 05 hrs.

Day 09: Trek to Nyle 3,347m - 05 hrs.

Day 10: Trek to Mu Gompa 3,700 m /12,139 ft - 04 hrs.

Day 11: Mu-Gumpa with Rest Day to explore around.

Day 12: Trek to Rachen-Gumpa 3,240 m- 05 hrs.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by Yeti Mountain staff and guides for short transfer to your hotel in the center of Kathmandu city around interesting Thamel area or nearby. On checking into your rooms getting refreshed briefing of the treks with other useful information, with welcome dinner in nice Nepalese restaurants with cultural programs.

Day 02: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Morning by 9 a.m. where our city guide will take you for an interesting tour around great places steeped with world heritage sites and monuments, after a half day or full day tour back to hotel preparation for the treks.

Day 03: Drive to Soti-Khola 700m- 07 hrs.

Morning transfer for exciting overland drives towards Mid West on Nepal's busy and main highway as the journey leads to lower warmer mid hills past farm villages and towns with views of snow-capped peaks. As the drive continues with few refreshing stops head west to reach at Dhading and towards Gorkha areas to reach warm sub-tropical Arughat. Drive continues from Arughat past rural farm villages and terraced fields with numerous streams and then on the bank of Buri Gandaki through cultivated land, with many scattered farmhouses and hamlets to reach Mordor, Simone, and Arket villages. After a short climb to Kyoropani, then descend once again to a river for the overnight stop at Soti Khola, with time to relax and stroll around this small farm village.

Day 04:    Trek to Machhe-Khola 869 m- 05 hrs.

After Soti-Khola, walk into dense forest areas and past small villages to the upper village of Lapses, from here walk descends to wide riverbed following steep, craggy valley side. At some length leading to a climb on the trail to Machha Khola for an overnight stop, with a number of teashops and small lodge, the word Maccha Khola means Fish Stream.

Day 05: Trek to Dobhan 1,070 m via Tatopani (Hot Spring) - 06 hrs.

From here onward altitude gains with altitude gain as morning walk leads to cross over a stream where Machha Khola (Fish stream) name comes from, then walk upstream towards Khola-Bensi village with Tatopani a place with natural 'hot spring'. As the walk continues valley becomes much narrow then crossing a suspension bridge, after a short period of walk entering a patch of forest and then reaching Doban located on the high shelf of Buri Gandaki River. 

Day 06: Trek to Jagat 1,340m- 05 hrs.

Morning walk leads to Lauri stream crossing bridge that leads to climbing on high trails and then descending into the open valley of Yara Khola, where our journey continues on for another hour to the village of Jagat. Jagat a nice looking farm village of moderate size after Arughat; people of mix tribes Magar, Chettries, Brahman, Manaslu Bhatia (Tibetan looking tribes) and some Newar people a lodge owner and shopkeepers. 

Day 07: Trek to Lokpa 2,240 m – 05 hrs.

From Jagat morning walks on stone steps to a river, where path climb over terraced hillsides to Saguleri, facing views of Sringi  Himal at above 7,187 m high, as the walk continues with ups and down and crossing over Buri-Gandaki. After the bridge path winds up to Philim village a place with nice and rich cultivated fields. Enjoying refreshing stop the heading higher to reach a rocky ridge covered with the bamboo forest at Eklai Bhatti, from here our route diverts toward North East to reach at Lokpa for an overnight stop in this small village of Tibetan culture and way of life.

Day 08: Trek to Chhokang-Paro 3,031m/ 9,944 ft -05 hrs.

From here onward enter the new fresh country and away from main trekking trails of Manaslu as walk leads towards Tsum in the valley of happiness. Walk further past farmlands and smaller villages facing views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal, as walk ends on reaching a nice village at Chumling for overnight halt.

Day 09: Trek to Nyle 3,347m/10,980ft - 05 hrs.

From here onward walk leads within Tsum valley, as morning lead towards highest areas to Nyle village around open and exposed wide valley, a dramatic dry and windswept terrain with similar landscapes like Tibet plateau. Entering into a country where tree lines fade for short juniper and willow trees, as the journey continues overlooking views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal range of peaks. Finally completing our day-walk reaching Nyle village where you can explore a meditation cave of great Buddhist saint ‘Guru Milarepa’ of the 11th century, he was a poet, singer and a high tantric guru where his folk stories and words of wisdom with songs are still remembered by Tibetans and followers of Milarepa. 

Day 10: Trek to Mu Gumpa 3,700m/12,139 ft -04hrs.

Today a short walk to reach at the end our trip at Tsum Valley reaching Mu Gumpa, with an old impressive monastery, walk leads to a climb within high, dry exposed terrain with views of high peaks then slowly walk ends on reaching at Mu Gumpa for an overnight stop.

Day 11: Mu-Gumpa with Rest Day to explore around.

A complete rest day where you can enjoy walking and exploring around the country, where only a few trekkers often venture this scenic and beautiful areas of Tsum Valley, witness its traditional village with the impressive ancient monastery of Mu Gumpa, enriched with treasures of antique idols, statue, and religious relics.

Day 12: Trek to Rachen-Gumpa 3,240m/10,629 ft- 05 hrs.

After an interesting and exciting moment around high Tsum valley, walk heads to visit Rachel Gumpa, as walk follows on the gradual trail with short few ups and downs with a panorama of snow-capped peaks, heading into yak grazing summer pasture to reach Rachen Gompa and its moderate size village for an overnight stop.

Day 13: Trek to Chumling 2,386 m/ 7,828 ft -05hrs.

Return journey having a wonderful time at high Tsum valley, where walk leads towards lower areas to Chumling where our route gets back into tall tree lines within green vegetation at Chumling village, for last and final overnight in Tsum Valley area.

Day 14: Trek to Jagat 1,340m/4,396 ft- 05/6 hrs.

From here retrace the journey back to Lokpa to join main Manaslu trekking trail, as walk leads further down leaving behind Tsum valley, as walk leads further south direction to reach at warmer farm village at Philip, and then at Jagat village for an overnight stop.

Day 15: Trek on route Soti-Khola - 05 hrs.

Walk further down into much warmer areas within agricultural farm villages following raging Buri-Gandaki River downstream to reach our overnight stop before Soti-Khola in one of the lovely lodge of the village.

Day 16: Trek to Soti-Khola – 05 hrs.

After a lovely overnight stop, morning walk follows the river downstream to reach the low sub-tropical area around Tatopani, a village with natural fresh hot-spring. Here enjoy refreshing moments on natural hot-spring with time to explore around the farm villages.  From Tatopani, with refreshing time our last day continues to the near level trail following the raging river downstream encountering many farm villages and into a patch of the forest of oaks and Sal trees to reach our last overnight stop and then ending the walk at Soti-Khola village.

Day 17: Drive to Kathmandu on local Jeep or Bus- 07 hrs.

Today ends our walks of the adventure, morning drive back to Kathmandu, as the drive heads downhill past Ngadi and Bulbule Syange to reach warmer areas of Lamjung main town at Besar.  From here taking another transport as drive leads on the busy and exciting highway past farm villages and towns to reach at Kathmandu, on reaching Kathmandu back to your respective hotels, having time in the afternoon for leisure personal activities.

Day 18: International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal the country of Himalayan wonders and impressive cultures, as your international flight time transfer to the international airport in Kathmandu for home-ward bound or to respective destinations, after a memorable experience and adventure on Tsum Valley trekking with great services of Yeti Mountain Treks.
