People and Culture: Lower area mix tribes of people both Hindu and Buddhist religions various interesting cultures, mid hills populated by Poon of Magar people hill tribe of Western Nepal around Ghorepani, Chitre, and Sauta villages. Gurung tribes around Tadapani and Ghandruk villages the main hill tribes of Annapurna region of Buddhism religion as well practice their own ancestral cult of pre-Buddhism, worshipping nature and mountain spirits.

Total Trip: 12 Nights and 13 Days from Arrival to departure (Kathmandu to Kathmandu)

Seasons: March to May and September to November months, except wet months from mid-June to mid-September, falls within Monsoon time with heavy rains and dark clouds to obstruct the views and walks. March to May the best time when morning to mid-day with clear fine weather for views and walks with mild temperatures, right times for trek to Khair Lake with Ghorepani and Poon Hill when wildflowers are in full blooming times, especially the rhododendron flowers. Rhododendron from tall trees to bushes with flowers that blossom of various species and colors that decorate the hill and valleys (national flower of Nepal), regarded as the world’s largest natural garden around walks to Ghorepani to Tadapani areas. October to November months another best time for treks around autumn/fall and pre-winter where days are clear for views as well right temperatures for walks, can be cold during night and morning times with chances of snow in high areas of Annapurna above 1,800 meters high.

Khair Lake and Annapurna Panorama trekking a great scenic combination adventure that leads you first on main popular trails to Ghorepani and Poon Hill and then into sheer wilderness within close to high mountains. Khair Lake and Annapurna Panorama trekking enjoyable walks although with much uphill and downhill to encounter but worth glamorous views of massive Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains with Machhapuchare Himal ‘Fish-Tail’ and Manaslu range. An exciting trek that leads you from low sub-tropical climate to reach high green hills of alpine temperatures exploring traditional Gurung and Poon villages of great interest along with grand views of snow-clad mountains. Starting from beautiful Pokhara a renowned touristic city located on the laps of massive Annapurna Himalaya that reflects on its lovely lakes of Phewa and Begnas where walk leads after a short drive to start the adventure. The walk leads to climbing facing views of cascading waterfalls and views of peaks entering into dense woodland of rhododendron and pines at scenic Ghorepani village with a hike to Poon Hill for glamorous sunrise over the chain of Himalayan peaks. After being on the main trail, where our route diverts heading into complete wilderness within dense forest and then on a high ridge at Kopra located in between grand close views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range of peaks. From Kopra with a rest day to explore and hike to our main highlight of the adventure to reach Khair Lake, regarded as holy a glacial pond where once a year great religious festival held in the month of July / August. Great numbers of Hindu pilgrims visit for a dip and bathe in icy holy Khair Lake and offers prayer as well as sacrifice domestic animals to the nature gods of mountain spirits. Enjoying a wonderful time at high Kopra ridge and on holy Khari lake where return journey leads back on main trekking trails past nice large Gurung village of Ghandruk and then on the road to beautiful Pokhara to complete our marvelous adventure Khair Lake and Annapurna Panorama trekking.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Day 03: Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m -06 hrs journey (30 mins by air).

Day 04: Drive past Nayapul and trek to Tirkhedhunga 1,430 m - 04 hrs walk.

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani 2,880 m/ 9,448 ft - 06 hrs via Ulleri village.

Day 06: Hike to Poon Hill 3,210m trek to Sauta 2,230 m - 05 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Kopra Ridge 3,870 m -03 hrs.

Day 08: At Kopra Ridge for an optional excursion to holy Khair lake.

Day 09: Trek to Dobato 3,420 m - 05 hrs.

Day 10: Trek to Ghandruk Village 1,940 m - 04 hrs.

Day 11: Trek down to road-head and drive past Nayapul to Pokhara - 05 hrs.

Day 12: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 13: International departure for homeward bound.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by Yeti Mountain staff and guides for short transfer to your hotel in the center of Kathmandu city around interesting Thamel area or nearby. On checking into your rooms getting refreshed briefing of the treks with other useful information, with welcome dinner in nice Nepalese restaurants with cultural programs.

Day 02: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Morning by 9 a.m. where our city guide will take you for an interesting tour around great places steeped with world heritage sites and monuments, after a half day or full day tour back to hotel preparation for the treks.

Day 03: Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m -06 hrs journey (30 mins by air).

Morning as per the group size either in comfortable tourist coach or in chartered cars where a drive leads to warmer low farm areas to reach Nepal Mid-West at Pokhara by the shore of beautiful Phewa Lake. Where all nice hotels located with views of lakes and Annapurna peaks overnight in the comfort of good hotels in Pokhara near to Phewa Lake.

Day 04: Drive past Nayapul and trek to Tirkhedhunga 1,430 m - 04 hrs walk.

Our short adventure begins with a short drive to reach outside Pokhara valley at Nayapul and Bhirethati village, where walks starts uphill past farm villages and beautiful waterfalls to reach at Hille and Tirkhedhunga for overnight stop after a good day walks.

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani 2,880 m/ 9,448 ft - 06 hrs via Ulleri village.

From Tirkhedhunga morning leads to a steep climb to Ulleri village with views of Annapurna South and top of Machhapuchare Himal ‘Fish Tail’. After Ulleri village walk past Bhanthati village, as trek leads into a cool alpine forest covered with tall rhododendron-magnolia-oaks-pines and fir trees as walk proceeds slowly then reaching at Ghorepani village for an overnight stop. Ghorepani populated by Poon people of Magar tribe located beneath Poon Hill viewpoint.

Day 06: Hike to Poon Hill 3,210m trek to Sauta 2,230 m - 05 hrs.

Rising early where an hour climb takes you up at scenic view-point on top Poon Hill situated above 3,210 m high, catch stunning sunrise views over the chain of Himalayan peaks from Dhaulagiri, Mustang Himal, Nilgiri’s, Annapurna, Machhapuchare peak with Lamjung and Manaslu Himal. After a scenic and dramatic moment descend to Ghorepani having breakfast continue to descend to Chitre village walking into a forested area. From here our route diverts from the main trail heading down to the river and up for short while to reach Santa village.

Day 07: Trek to Kopra Ridge 3,870 m -03 hrs.

Start morning walk past farm fields and villages to enter serene rhododendron and bamboo forest, a slow climb uphill to a small place of Christening with few small huts serving as tea-houses. From here walk leads to climb for few hours to our destination at Khair Lake and Kopra ridge, gaining altitude slowly on leaving tree lines for short alpine bushes. After few hours of scenic walk reaching Kopra ridge, a scenic spot with close views of Mt. Dhaulagiri massive range, Vara-Shikar (Annapurna Fang), Annapurna South which towers from this wonderful spot.

Day 08: At Kopra Ridge for a day hike to holy Khair lake.

A great place for a rest day with a long hike of the day to reach at holy Khair Lake located at 4,245 m, a holy site where religious festival held once a year in the month of July / August. Pilgrims from nearby villages visit for prayers to Lord Shiva and bathe in the icy waters, sacrifices sheep and goats, a scenic and pristine spot hidden behind massive giant peaks of Annapurna. After enjoying fabulous times at Khair Lake walk back to Kopra for last overnight stop around beautiful high hills.

Day 09: Trek to Dobato 3,420 m - 05 hrs.

After a wonderful time at Khair Lake and Kopra ridge, morning walk with long descends past grazing pasture lands in the midst of rhododendron forest, from Khair walk back into tree lines to overnight stop at Dobato, a summer pasture facing views of Annapurna South and Mt. Machhapuchare at above 6,993 m high.

Day 10: Trek to Ghandruk Village 1,940 m - 04 hrs.

An easy downhill walk with views of peaks within the lovely forested area where descend leads reach Tadapani where main Annapurna trail joins. After a refreshing break then on winding path with downhill to reach a large Gurung people village at Ghandruk for an overnight stop, afternoon free to stroll around Gurung village and witness the hill people culture and heritage farm life visiting its interesting Gurung museum along with the views of Annapurna peaks.

Day 11: Trek down to road-head and drive past Nayapul to Pokhara - 05 hrs.

The morning last walks on the downhill to Modi River near Syali Bazaar then on a good path towards Bhirethati unto Nayapul. Our wonderful trek ends taking a few hour drives back to Pokhara, after a most enjoyable and scenic time on Khair Lake and Annapurna Panorama Trekking.

Day 12: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Morning transfer for the overland journey back to Kathmandu where a drive leads on the scenic and interesting road past farm villages and towns and then uphill to reach Kathmandu valley and the city. After an exciting drive of 5-6 hours reaching Kathmandu and transfer to hotel with afternoon free for individual activities.

Day 13: International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal the country of Himalayan wonders and impressive cultures, as your international flight time transfer to the international airport in Kathmandu for home-ward bound or to respective destinations, after a memorable experience on Khair Lake and Annapurna Panorama Trekking with grand service of Yeti Mountain Treks.
