Trip Mode: Staying in tourist standard hotels while in cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara with overnight in nice local lodges wand in tented camping on climb beyond Annapurna base camp.

Trek Grade: Moderate to Adventurous with uphill and downhill with no problem facing high altitude as on this trek altitude gains gradually acclimatization during daily walks and overnight stops.

Climbing Grade: PD + “Per Difficult” grading from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification Systems as grade PD + describes a climb of technical effort in some section and a straight forward route to the summit, where all climbers require full climbing equipment for a safe and successful climb.

Trek and Climb Areas:  Nepal North Mid-West of Kaski districts within Annapurna Himalaya.

Trek and Climb Duration: 13 nights and 14 days with short drives both ways from Pokhara to Pokhara.

People and Culture: Lower areas of mix tribe of people of both Hindu and Buddhist religions of various interesting cultures, mid hills populated by Gurung tribes around Ghandruk = Chomrong villages the main hill tribes of Annapurna region of Buddhism religion as well practice their own ancestral cult of pre-Buddhism, worshipping nature and mountains.

Total Trip: 18 Nights and 19 Days from Arrival to departure (Kathmandu to Kathmandu).

Seasons: March to May and September to November, March to May best months when morning to mid-day with clear fine weather for views and walks with mild temperatures, right times for treks around Annapurna region when wildflowers are in full bloom times, especially the rhododendron flowers. Rhododendron from tall trees to bushes with flowers that blossom of various species and colors that decorate the hill and valleys (national flower of Nepal).  September to November months another best time for the trek and climb around autumn/fall where days are clear for views as well right temperatures for walks, can be cold during night and morning times with chances of snow in high areas of Annapurna above 1,800 meters high.

Introduction:

Tent Peak (Tharpu Chuli) Climb a mountain with both names, where local name as Tharpu Chuli as listed on NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association), where the word Tent came as the peak viewed from Annapurna base camp looks with a shape of a ‘Tent’. Early pioneers, climbers, and explorer refereed as Tent Peak way back in the mid-1960s, a classic peak to climb which rises at 5,663 m / 18,575 ft high, a less and below 6,000-meter peaks, but leads you to tough technical climb to reach the summit of Tent Peak (Tharpu Chuli). The grade of the climb we have used comes from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing System Classification as “PD +” ‘Per Difficult and plus’ means a technical peak to climb, but can be reached with much mountaineering skill and knowledge. Tent Peak (Tharpu Chuli) Climb takes you in the middle of beautiful Annapurna Sanctuary hidden beyond by array of towering peaks that encircles the base camp and the sanctuary area. The walk leads from beautiful Pokhara to reach high mid hills within the cooler area covered by lovely woodland of rhododendron and pine trees where walk continues through nice farm villages of Gurung the native tribe of Annapurna region. Slowly walk leads into a river gorge and then reaching a wide-open valley at Annapurna Sanctuary and the base camp, from here our route diverts to far end corner of the sanctuary within the remote area at Tent Peak base camp. After much preparation with a rest day to get acclimatize then heading for the big climb on top Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli using much skill and effort rewards you with amazing scenery of whole Annapurna range and beyond. Feeling in high spirits after a great climb, return journey leads on the same route for short drive to scenic and beautiful Pokhara by its serene Phewa Lake to complete our marvelous adventure and experience on Tent Peak (Tharpu Chuli) Climb with excellent services of Yeti Mountain Treks and Expeditions. 

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 04: Drive past Nayapul and trek to Ghandruk village 1,940 m - 06 hrs 

Day 05: Trek to Chomrong 1,951m - 06 hrs

Day 06: Trek to Dovan 2,130m via Bamboo 2,050 m - 06 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Machhapuchare Base Camp 3,720 m -06 hrs.

Day 08: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m - 04 hrs.

Day 09: Trek to Tent peak-Tharpu Chuli base camp 4,450 m - 05 hrs.

Day 10: At Tent Peak for acclimatization and practice climb.

Day 11: Trek to high camp 4,800 m - 04 hrs.

Day 12: Climb Tent Peak 5,663 m high and return to base camp - 08 hrs. 

Day 13: Spare / contingency day in case of unfavorable weather condition.

Day 14: Trek back to Annapurna Base Camp - 05 hrs.

Day 15: Trek to Bamboo 2,050m - 06 hrs.

Day 16: Trek to Jhinu-Danda with hot spring 1,700m - 06 hrs. 

Day 17: Trek to Kyumi drive to Pokhara 860 m- 05 hrs.

Day 18: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 19: International departure for homeward bound.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by Yeti Mountain staff and guides for short transfer to your hotel in center of Kathmandu city around interesting Thamel area or nearby. On checking into your rooms getting refreshed briefing of treks and climb with other useful information, includes welcome dinner in nice Nepalese restaurants with cultural programs.

Day 02: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Morning by 9 a.m. where our city guide will take you for an interesting tour around great places steeped with world heritage sites and monuments, after a half day or full day tour back to hotel preparation for the trek and climb.

Day 03: Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m -06 hrs journey (30 mins by air).

Morning as per the group size either in comfortable tourist coach or in chartered cars where a drive leads to warmer low farm areas to reach Nepal Mid-West at Pokhara by the shore of beautiful Phewa Lake. Where all nice hotels located with views of lakes and Annapurna peaks overnight in the comfort of good hotels in Pokhara near to Phewa Lake.

Day 04: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul trek to Ghandruk 1,950 m - 05 hrs. 

With pleasant nigh-stop at Pokhara, morning leads with a short drive to reach the starting point of the trek at Nayapul town or beyond to Bhirethati village, a nice place on the side of Modi River. The walk starts heading with slow uphill trail past farm villages overlooking snow peak views within farm areas and then climb to reach Ghandruk, a nice large Gurung farm village facing views of rolling hills and snow capped peaks of Annapurna South, Huin Chuli and top of Machhapuchare Himal.

Day 05: Trek to Chomrong 1,951m - 06 hrs.

From Ghandruk catching morning views of Annapurna peaks, where walks leads to a short steep climb to Kimrong ridge and then descend entering at Kimrong river valley, after crossing a bridge with uphill to a ridge reaching gradual winding path paved with fine stonework to reach above Chomrong village and then a short descend to reach a nice and large village of Chomrong for overnight stop.  One of the largest Gurung villages around Annapurna region and as well the last permanent human settlement on route to Annapurna Base Camp and Sanctuary where other areas beyond are just temporary settlement for trekkers.

Day 06: Trek to Dovan 2,130m via Bamboo 2,050 m - 06 hrs.

After a nice overnight stop in Chomrong morning starts on the downhill to cross a bridge over Chomrong river with uphill to Sinuwa located on a high ridge with a couple of Tea-House and shops facing grand views of dramatic landscapes of surrounding hills and valley with snow-capped peaks of Annapurna Himalaya range. From here walk leads into deeply forested areas on winding ups and then descend into dense woodland with bamboo grooves to a place called also as Bamboo. Bamboo a small settlement to cater needs of the trekkers with many good lodges located in a river gorge surrounded by a forest of rhododendron-pines and bamboo. From a Bamboo walk on the gradual path into dense woods with easy ups to reach Donovan located within a gorge of Modi River with few lodges for travelers.

Day 07: Trek to Machhapuchare Base Camp 3,720 m -06 hrs.

The adventure leads closer to our highlight as walk leads on winding ups into the forest past Himalaya Hotel, located next to large overhanging cave Hinko which is directly beneath Annapurna South and Huin-Chuli peaks. From Himalaya Hotel downhill near Modi River then with short climb to reach at Deurali for overnight stop, Deuarli onwards where tall tree lines stops for short alpine bushes, after Deuarli walk continues uphill following raging Modi river right up to Machhapuchare base camp for overnight stop, located at the bottom of majestic North Face of Machhapuchare Himal ‘Fish Tail’.

Day 08: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m - 04 hrs.

After a refreshing overnight stop at MBC (Machhapuchare base camp) an easy and short morning walk to reach our main highlight at Annapurna base camp, from Machhapuchare where Annapurna Sanctuary starts right up to base camp, walk leads to short ups to reach a level ground on a huge field or a plateau within Sanctuary enclosed by array of peak and soon walk leads to a welcome sign-post of Annapurna Base Camp. Reaching our final destination and the highest spot at above 4,095 m high situated beneath towering Mt. Annapurna and range of other peaks of Vara-Shikar, Gangapurna with Annapurna South. Annapurna Base Camp, one and only base camp in whole Himalaya region with a facility of the nice and cozy lodge, where rooms face views of Annapurna peaks.

Day 09: Trek to Tent peak Base Camp 4,450 m / 14,600 ft - 05 hrs.

From Annapurna Base Camp, our route heads across snow-covered moraine rocky path and towards icy trail for an hour reaching at Annapurna south glacier. Walk with short climb offers excellent views of Tent peak with other high mountains, after few hours of good trek reaching a flat ground to set our base camp with first night camping, afternoon free for climbing preparation.

Day 10: At Tent Peak for acclimatization and practice climb.

Free day at Tent Peak or Tharpu Chuli base camp for acclimatization and as well for practice climb and getting familiar with climbing equipment rest of the day relax and enjoy the surrounding grand views.

Day 11: Trek to High Camp 5,200 m / 17,056 ft - 04 hrs.

Setting extra camp to make the climb much easier and accessible, from base camp climb further on the steep faint path over rock and glacier with boulders, continue to reach at a high camp located above 5,200 meters high, afternoon free preparation for early morning to reach the summit.

Day 12: Climb Tent Peak summit and return to Base Camp - 06 hrs. 

Our high light and a Big Day! The climb starts early morning heading over steep snow slope with some technical section to reach the summit top; where our expert guide will fix the rope and maintains a route to make more accessible on a necessary section of the climb for the safe haul to reach the summit of Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli. Truly a tough and technical climb to reach the summit of Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli where you feel in great spirit after an amazing feat on top facing glorious views of surrounding giant mountains, then safely descend back to base camp.

Day 13: Spare / contingency day in case of unfavorable weather condition.

Spare as an extra day or contingency if it gets a delay on the climb due to unfavorable and bad weather condition if all goes well as per the itinerary days using a free extra day on the walk back to Pokhara, making shorter days and enjoying local culture and views.

Day 14: Trek back to Annapurna Base Camp - 05 hrs.

From Tent Peak base camp having last camping breakfast and then cleaning up leaving the base camp in pristine form, where walk leads back to Annapurna Base Camp, a good moderate walk of five hours to reach overnight stop at Annapurna base camp in the comfort of the nice lodge.

Day 15: Trek to Bamboo 2,050m - 06 hrs.

Enjoying lovely moments with an adventure on top Tent Peak within grand scenery of peaks around Annapurna base camp and sanctuary, today a long walk with much downhill and few short ups to reach at Bamboo place for overnight stop, and back into tall tree lines and lush vegetation, after being on arctic zone climate at Annapurna base camp and sanctuary.

Day 16: Trek to Jhinu Danda with hot spring 1,700 m - 06 hrs. 

The return journey back to Chomrong with ups and downhill trail, from Chomrong hilltop our route diverts to another fresh new trail to reach at nice hill village at Jhinu located on a ridge with grand scenery of rolling hills and mountains. Jhinu provides refreshing natural hot-spring for interested people which is a mere distance downhill of half hour to the hot spring with two nice warm pools close to raging Modi-River.

Day 17: Trek to Kyumi drive to Pokhara 860 m- 05 hrs.

Our last day of marvelous walks on Annapurna Base Camp trekking ends with downhill past farm villages following Modi River downstream to reach lower warm farm areas and rural village, where an exciting drive takes you back at beautiful Pokhara near to the shore of Phewa Lake for overnight in the comfort of nice hotels.

Day 18: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Morning transfer for the journey back to Kathmandu where a drive leads on the scenic and interesting road past farm villages and towns and then uphill to reach Kathmandu valley and the city. After an exciting drive of 6 hours reaching Kathmandu and transfer to hotel with afternoon free for individual activities.

Day 19: International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal the country of Himalayan wonders and impressive cultures, as your international flight time transfer to the international airport in Kathmandu for home-ward bound or to respective destinations, after a memorable experience and adventure on Tent Peak Climb around Annapurna Base Camp Trekking with great services of Yeti Mountain Treks.
