White water Rafting
|
Nepal
offers one of the most exciting river rafting adventures in the
world for white water Kayaking, River rafting in Nepal began in 1975. There are in Nepal large number of rivers some big and others small which make this country the richest in water resources. Within the 56,000 mile boundary of Nepal, there are 250 sizeable tributaries contained in four major river systems. : The Sapta Koshi in eastern Nepal, the Karnali in western Nepal, the Mahakali in far western Nepal and the Sapta Gandaki River system in Central Nepal. But so far only about 5 rivers within these river systems have been explored commercially by canoeists and rafters. The rest are yet to be explored. There are quite a number of raftable rivers in Nepal. The following are some of them : Trisuli (class III) This is Nepal's most popular rafting river and is easily accessible from Kathmandu. It meanders close to the highway and is a perfect alternative means of transportation to the Royal Chitwan National Park or even Pokhara. Despite its close proximity to the road, the Trisuli still offers great scenery, impressive gorges and exciting rapids. Beginners or intermediate can raft or kayak for 1 to 4 days. Sun Koshi (class + V) According to experts, this river provides one of the best rafting trips in the world. The Sun Koshi, which has fairly warm water, is a remote and pristine river with no roads nearby. A few friendly villages can be encountered on the way and the bank of the lower section shows an amazing display of wildlife. There are great camping sites also. Intermediate or advanced team member can raft or Kayak for 7 to 10 days. It's a self-sufficient expedition. Kali Gandaki (class II to + IV) This river can be divided into two sections. "The upper section" (class + IV) can be ideally combined with a trek in the area. This part of the river offers exciting class + IV rapids, remoteness, wilderness and an unspoiled environment. Intermediate or advanced team member can raft or kayak for 3 to 5 days. It's a self-sufficient expedition. "The Lower Section" (class II) is wide and smooth and offers a relaxing river trip. The natural scenery around this section is wonderfully unspoiled and as the water flows through narrow gorges, rafters get an opportunity to see exotic wildlife in the surrounding jungles. This is a classic discovery trip, but is too often neglected in favor of better known rivers. Beginners and intermediate can raft or kayak for 3 to 4 days. It's self-sufficient expedition. Note : Both the upper and lower sections may be done as a single tirp. An ideal trip could include trekking the Kali Gandaki valley and then rafting the entire stretch of the river up to Chitwan. Karnali lower section (class V) This is a magnificent river journey into the remote western parts of Nepal. A two-day trek is required to reach the river. The Karnali is a big river that runs through unique jungle-clad canyons, which support unique flora and fauna. This is a dream trip for adventure and exploration oriented people. Intermediate or advanced can raft or kayak with 2 days trek and 5 to 7 days on the river. It is self-sufficient expedition. For more information on this trip, please get in touch with us. |
